rva employment details
Posted: 02-05-2010, 09:38 AM Just curious, about how much do they pay? Is it about the same as the other contractors....26.00/hour plus the 3.xx/hr for benefits? Also, how much out of your check is healthcare (mainly family rate or yourself plus spouse)
thanks |

Re: rva employment details
Posted: 02-05-2010, 11:01 AM all of the contractors pay what DOL says, so you can check the DOL website for their wages. Also, fringe is paid by the DOL. but it either needs to pay for bennies or got to a 401k. I dont believe that any contractor pays it directly to the employee. About the cost for health care, it depends, single, married, children. It depends what you want. So basically your asking questions that can only be answered by yourself once you get hired.

Re: rva employment details
Posted: 02-05-2010, 01:24 PM Ok....so, I was wondering what people are paying for health insurance.
example, billy pays $XXX for himself or jane pays $xxx for her plus husband and child. I understand this is a broad question as all plans are different |

Re: rva employment details
Posted: 02-06-2010, 02:07 AM Most if not all the contractors pay the employee only portion of the health insurance and since it is based on group rates (meaning the rates are based on the census of the group which consists of nothing but old, out of shape, nicotine addicted controllers and their similarly old, out of shape, nicotine addicted spouses) the cost for your dependents might be pretty high. You should look into an individual policy for your family on your own before you go to work. Often it will be much cheaper and if you have your own insurance you can waive the company benefit and all that money will be dropped into your 401k. I recommend you look into an HSA (general info here...Navigation Use - Accountholders - HSA Bank). I'm a licensed insurance agent as well as a controller and I really believe an HSA is a great way to go. Just my 2 cents

Posted: 02-06-2010, 05:34 AM Actually unless the law has been changed and I hadn't read that it was, if you decline the medical benefits the company has to pay you that money that would had gone toward medical, there is no law that I am aware of that requires you to put it into a 401K, that is YOUR money.
Years ago I worked for several govt contractors and they were required to pay the employees that declined insurance that money quarterly. |
