Help decided which CTI school to enroll in
Posted: 03-11-2010, 01:42 PM

To make a long story short the admissions people at CCBC ignored me, and now the terminal program is full. Also they said that you can't switch over from terminal to enroute or vice versa like you once could.

Now I have to make a decision, I can either go enroute and start in the Fall as planned or I can wait, apply for the Fall, and start next January. I know CTI is CTI to the FAA, but I was really looking forward to getting to work in a live tower.

It's a trade-off. Enroute centers are level 10-11-12, in higher cost-of-living areas (more $ than most towers), and are more geared toward training newbies than towers are. Enroute usually takes longer to get to CPC than tower.

I wouldn't want to be stuck at a level-7 tower in a high COL area (like Aspen).

Well it's not like the FAA is gonna say send me one way or the other based on what I did in CTI school, and I think I know I want to work at a terminal facility rather than en route, but I would rather study terminal than enroute. The only difference would be, I would graduate about 12 weeks earlier if I go enroute now rather than terminal later.

Well, if you really want to work in a live tower, you could apply to Middle Georgia. In fact, if you enrolled in the four year program, I think you could still get your CTO.

i currently go to CCBC and am in the terminal program...but dont worry, a spot will open up in terminal...you have a whole semester to get through before they even split you up between enroute and terminal..you have to take ATCIII and Instrument classes first. a lot of people cant handle the basics so they drop out or get washed out because they cant make the grade. you have to maintain a 3.0 average or you will not be qualified to make it on CCBC's direct hire list. stick with it, im sure something will happen where you can slip into terminal.

Golf....My advice is to go where you can complete the program the fastest.

Direct hire list? Sorry, but no schools offer a direct hire thru the FAA. You will get referred from your school to the FAA, but there is no direct hire, yet.

Golf, even if you do enroute in CTI school, when you go to the academy, you will be studying terminal or enroute based on where you were selected to go. I'm sure you knew that, but just reminding you.

We have had people switch to terminal, granted they failed Non-radar but it is possible. Like said earlier, you have a couple of semesters to get out of the way first before either going to non-radar or Fac I....Who did you talk to at CCBC as far ignoring you? Did you call the main campus or the Aviation Sciences Center....Call the ASC and talk to Peggy....They're on spring break this week though....On a side note I waited 2.5 years on a waiting list for CCBC, so as long as you're not going to age out I think its worth it.
