C90 = Impressive
Posted: 03-15-2010, 02:17 PM

Hey everyone,

I just got back from my tour at Chicago Tracon. What an impressive facility. All of the people I met were really nice. The radar room was very big. Hell, even the security guards were nice when I arrived. I am not sure if the word on the street is that C90 is a good or bad place to work, but from what I saw, it looked really nice, both the building and people. The guy I talked with said the average checkout time is 2 thru 3 years depending on if you have prior experience.

Also, something to consider, the guy I met with said no OTS has checked out yet. They had an OTS wall of fame and from what I can remember, there were 5 or 6 people who were partially checked out in some areas.

Wow... no OTS, how unfortunate? I hope they have been able to transfer to somewhere easier, and not just kicked to the curb...

Not yet at least. I talked with 2 OTS guys who have been there for about 4 months. They said everyone that washed out in the past 4 months have been relocated.

Glad to hear the tour went well. Hopefully I'll be on the OTS checkout list for departures as well. C90 is a great facility and I absolutely love working there.

They'll bump failures down to a lower level facility. Depending on your feelings about some of them, that may or may not be the curb.

For CPC-IT, yes. For new hires, not always. There has been talks of implementing a "bidding" process for new hire washes. They will wait until they have a set number of facilities open for washout transfers, then put out a bid. If there are only 5 positions, and 15 washouts applying, you see how that ends up. This is just being "talked about" as of right now.

OTS or CTI, i would believe that if its a high level facility and you worked hard and people liked you, you would probably be relocated.
If your a jerk and its a middle to low level facility, probably to the curb.
imo

the year is not a black and white requirement anymore. it sure helps though. once your off probation you seem to have more options. or more correctly, the agency tends to look higher upon you than a new hire still under probation.
