Re: Would you support a points based hiring system?
Posted: 08-17-2010, 02:37 AM so having a degree underwater basketweaving would apply points?
rate the military towers/radars based on previous years traffic count. Lvl 8+ military tower / radar facility +10 Lvl 7 and below military tower / radar facility +5 and then your VA disability +5 or +10 |

I dunno, maybe it's easier for me to swallow since it was useless for my prior career as well. Serious, who majors in Political Science? FML. |

Re: Would you support a points based hiring system?
Posted: 08-17-2010, 03:48 AM i voted no too. it's pointless to give points for something that has no relevance to ATC.
someone with a masters that scores a Q on the at-sat is more qualified then someone with no degree that gets a WQ on the at-sat. come on. degrees have nothing to do with being able to separate planes. plain and simple. reason: i've done this job for 14 years now and all i have to show is a high school diploma. |

Re: Would you support a points based hiring system?
Posted: 08-17-2010, 05:34 AM the way i look at it... if you have a degree in XXXXXXXX then your trainers wont feel so bad when they wash your ass out. (not that they feel bad to begin with).

Basically everything you listed has nothing to do with ATC itself, so I see no reason people should be rewarded for it. The ONLY 'points' anyone should get is if they've actually be an air traffic controller. |

Re: Would you support a points based hiring system?
Posted: 08-24-2010, 11:50 PM How about we just make the ATSAT harder to weed more people out before wasting more money on them by sending them to the FAA Academy? I'll cut my losses with the $800 test rather than who knows how much money by sending them to the FAA Academy and maybe on to a facility...

Re: Would you support a points based hiring system?
Posted: 08-25-2010, 12:18 AM I'm not sure whether I agree with it or not. As with most if not all government jobs they base your grade level when you hire in off of your education and/or relevant experience. So I could see ATC going that route in the future, at least for initial selections.
Although, I do agree that your education level or pilot ratings realistically does not predict how well you can control traffic, but how else would they rank people. Aside from individuals who already have a CTO from being in the military that is. Personally it would only help me if it was done this way..so wait I DO agree with it after all j/k. |
