Re: Anyone trying to get into CA?
Posted: 02-08-2011, 03:11 PM Yeah; hard to say. I have worked hard to e-mail certain people...I was invited for a tour @ KLAX..I scored WQ on the AT-SAT..but not much to do now except wait..you just don't know...helps to try to get your name out there at least.

Re: Anyone trying to get into CA?
Posted: 02-08-2011, 03:22 PM True to some point, but I wouldn't bank on LAX for your first facility though...Unless you are VRA/REINST and have prior controlling experience. Best bet is to just get in the system and work to transfer. Even that seems to be difficult from what I've read.

Re: Anyone trying to get into CA?
Posted: 02-08-2011, 03:48 PM I was selected for California. A level 5 facility not a level 12. And if you ask anybody they'll all agree it's your best bet. This way you can get certified and know you won't lose your FAA job then hope to transfer as opposed to getting right into the best facility and hoping you can make it through the training. Besides it not being a good idea (unless you think you're an ATC god or something) most big facilities are getting the hint that hiring fresh meat to go right into a 12 is a bad idea so they are only taking CPCs into them.
@Battani - It's actually not that hard to transfer. You can send ERRs and hope eventually a spot at that facility opens and that they pick you. Otherwise constantly watching the FAA jobs page for open ATC jobs for CPCs is another way to transfer. The part that sucks is that if you're at a hard to staff facility the managed doesn't have to release you until they can afford to lose you which may make you inelligible for some jobs. PS. Crazy how we met each other randomly on Monday!!! |

Re: Anyone trying to get into CA?
Posted: 02-08-2011, 04:36 PM It probably can be fast, but like you said, depends on the staffing. Seems like there are several people on here that had ERRs in, but haven't gotten it approved for a while.
Yeah, going in I was wondering if you were interning that day. I would have stayed longer to go up in the tower or TRACON, but after that stupid test I just wanted to bail. The questions on the test get kind of depressing... |

Re: Anyone trying to get into CA?
Posted: 02-08-2011, 05:12 PM Angry, I just heard of someone getting VNY and another for CMA but I can't for the life of me remember who they were....probably because I hate them so much.
