When is the next panel!? I want to get picked up ASAP!
Posted: 12-15-2011, 11:11 PM I realize anyone that wasn't or hasn't been picked up wants to be picked up ASAP. I picked two smaller states (which I think was a mistake) and wasn't selected for my first panel (graduated May 11') and I'm thinking of switching it up for the next panel. Does anyone know when it's going to take place? When should I change my states? I want to do everything I can to make sure I get picked up on the next go around!

Re: When is the next panel!? I want to get picked up ASAP!
Posted: 12-15-2011, 11:53 PM The speculation is that the announcements will open up for all categories in February, so I would guess about a month later all announcements will close and probably meet a panel in April, as it has in the past. I am not really familiar with the CTI process since you seem to be able to do things a bit different than the VRA and CTO, but I would suggest finding states that are more apt to picking up CTI hires than the others. I think FL is a big state that picks up CTI, especially Jacksonville I believe. Just start networking and find where people need bodies, and when you find those places, get in good with them and don't tell people that they are hiring, unless u want more competition. just my .02

Re: When is the next panel!? I want to get picked up ASAP!
Posted: 12-16-2011, 12:39 AM Well pay sucks starting out, and is very dependent of where you get selected for. As a CTI, you can expect about 17k a year while at academy, i think someone said around 600 a paycheck, with your locality pay. once you get to your facility, you get AG pay at 37k a year plus locality. Then you hit your developmental pay bands and eventually a CPC band. All of this is dependent on your facility level, and how quickly you progress through training. Under the ATC pay link up top, you can access the 2012 pay calendar for all the different level facilities and pay bands, to get an estimate.
As far as who is hiring, tough to say, Texas and Washington State, hard to get into from what I hear, but i know a lot of people got picked up this cycle for centers in ZAN, ZDC, and in CA, maybe worth a shot. |

Posted: 12-16-2011, 10:00 AM At the end, you'll get more at the academy because of your per diem at $90 per day. If it weren't for actually being away from home, it would be a pay cut when you get to your facility because you no longer get half of your income tax free.

Re: When is the next panel!? I want to get picked up ASAP!
Posted: 12-16-2011, 10:09 AM If i were CTI. I would pick not the "smaller" states but states that in your opinion that no one would like to go and transfer later. Additonally, I think CTI's are more likely to go to Centers so look at what states have one. I know FL has two which might be y a lot of CTI's get picked up there along with about 20 total facilities. This is just my opinion!!!! I'm VRA/CTO and already selected. But best of luck!

Re: When is the next panel!? I want to get picked up ASAP!
Posted: 12-24-2011, 05:13 PM The standard timeframe for selection panels is quarterly: January, April, July, October. They've been canceled (i.e. postponed to the next one) in the past, but they don't happen any sooner than that.
Generally you can get a good idea of when one's coming up by watching the buzz on SM, as word tends to leak out through the various people that applicants talk to. I don't monitor the new hire stuff as frequently I used to, but it seems people aren't talking about the January panel much, its probably been postponed. Just a reasonable guess. CTIs aren't any more likely to go to a Center than a Terminal. They don't have any experience either way. |
