Substance abuse evaluator
Posted: 06-29-2012, 07:03 PM I was wondering if anyone knows of a doctor/psychologist/psychiatrist or counselor around Indianapolis who does the substance abuse counseling? I had an OWI 7 years ago and to pass my medical the flight surgeon requested I see someone for further evaluation. I have called around and no one is willing to do the eval. I called the flight surgeon office and the only guy they had listed in the Indy area is booked solid for 3 plus months. Anyone had to go through this and know what doctor they used?

Posted: 07-09-2012, 06:19 PM If you have health insurance I would try calling your provider and see if they can refer you to a counselor. Any licensed counselor/clinician would be able to do the evaluation; substance abuse training is pretty much standard for a counselor.

Posted: 07-09-2012, 06:25 PM I tired Anthem first and they had no one. I called everyone on there list within 50 miles of my house. I spoke with a few that only did in patient that would be happy to do it if i admitted myself. I didnt think finding an evaultor would be that hard. They only 1 I found was book for 3 and 1/2 months straight. I called the number for the flight surgeon that was on the email and they didnt have anyone on there list either. I believe there is someone in ORD area so I might have to fly up there. 2 counselors thought they had the qualifications but didnt.
