Beaver County no longer issuing CTO's?
Posted: 04-30-2009, 10:50 PM

So I heard a rumor through the pipeline last week that CCBC is terminating the CTO portion of the terminal program. The way I was made to understand it is that students will still take the CTO test, and train in the tower but there will no longer be checkouts with CTO's issued by the FAA. Supposedly if you are already a student, they are still issuing them but anyone who starts this summer or later won't come out of the program with the CTO (I think I have the timing right). I checked with a friend of mine who is still there and he says it's true. Just a little insight I thought I'd share for those who didn't know and/or looking to go there. Im a CCBC grad and it WAS worth it when I was there. Now the whole program has gone to hell and I say don't waste your time.

If I am wrong, please call me out on it. If this has been posted somewhere else, my appologies. Didn't have time to search the threads.

Hmmm....very interesting!

I'm a current En Route student there. Kind of glad we don't have to deal with all the stuff the terminal students have to! We just go in, and sit in a room running problems. LOL

Is Eaton still acting like the enroute nazi, or has Erica started carrying that flagpole too? (don't tell her I said that )

This has been talked about for a long time. The issue arises as though FAA controllers are typically teaching the classes, they are not authorized to issue CTO certs. There has been little issue with this until the FAA initiated a new "plan" to incorporate more CTI schools, and thus has had a lesser requirement for OTS candidates. (Flame me if you will but we are yet to see a pubnat this year...) With this, there is also a lessened requirement for those with CTO certificates as issued through an educational institution. Canditates with a CTO through prior controlling experience or military CTO experience are generally considered "Qualified" (not in terms of the AT-SAT).

FAA doc 76.15 and 112.47 for those who want to "research"...

YES....and.....no comment.

Though, we haven't had much experience with Eaton just yet. I just finished up Non-Radar this week, and pretty much the entire semester he did nothing but play solitare and mahjong on the computer. Just stepped in every now and then to clarify a solution to an issue. I guess he's ALOT more involved with the Radar class, so we'll get our fair share of him next semester....yay.

I do believe it is just the students that are coming in for the summer semester students that are starting I have heard it too... I am a CTI student there at the Beav I have my CTO just one of the people who put flying off until last... I do know that the class taking FAC 2 over the summer will still get CTOs but the class after that I do not think that they will get the actual CTO but if I understand it correctly will still get on the direct hire list

If you maintain a 80% or better for ALL of your aviation classes, after you graduate, you get put on a direct hire list. It's basically just a list of qualified (80% or above) CCBC graduates to go into the pool of CTI grads waiting to get hired. Like, the school's "recommendation".

Not sure how it's done at other CTI schools, that's just how it's done here.
