GPA > AT-SAT score?
Posted: 08-11-2009, 09:01 AM

Just finshed up the Enroute program at CCBC last week. It's a pretty stout program with a TOUGH instructer, but I managed to maintain a 4.0 throughout it all!

Now I just join the waiting game like everyone else...haha. But I've been wondering what they look for in picking CTI grads? Do they look at the persons GPA? or their AT-SAT score? Or is just the fact that you're a CTI grad good enough to get the nod?

I scored alright on the AT-SAT (84), but I'm more proud of my 4.0, so I'm hoping they see that when my name comes around.

Opinions? Also, what do you think the odds are of us recent grads being in with the Sept. selection panels? I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath. lol

Selections are based on facility need. Take me for example, which is a similar case to you. My GPA is a 3.75 at Middle Tennessee. I made an 83 on the AT-SAT. I graduated this pass December but wasnt selected in April. I picked North Carolina and Tennessee for my states. Well, I was told not many people were selected for those two states, so my AT-SAT wasnt high enough to be considered.

Case two, would be a person I graduated with. They had below a 3.0 GPA, and made around an 80 on the AT-SAT. They picked TX and TN for their states. They were offered a job for the April selections for a center in TX.

So, if your AT-SAT score is below an 85 it seems like the best bet of getting a job quickly is by picking a state that is in need of controllers. It also looks like AT-SAT comes first when panels are looking at candidates. Just my opinion.

IMO they take your ATSAT score, and most likely dont consider your GPA. Then getting chosen at a panel comes down to the states you choose and them needing controllers there.

I know I was asked my GPA by the interviewer at ZDV, but other than that have had no requests to divulge it. I am sure my AT-SAT helped me get selected, not terribly likely my GPA even played a role in it.

Your GPA means squat. If you scored below an 85, you're chances of getting picked up are lower than those who scored higher than an 85. I know someone on stuckmic who had a 2.7 GPA and scored a 100 on the ATSAT and is a developmental at a center in NY. If you don't have the aptitude to to do a certain kind of work at a certain level, then you should not do the work. Passing all your tests in school and coming to class everyday doesn't mean you should be better suited for a position as an ATCer.

As far as graduating and getting through a CTI position, it will increase your chances of getting selected in the state you want.

According to the director of training who was at school at a couple of people from OKC that were there, they do not even look at you GPA. Your score is all about your At-Sat after that it really depends on your location of where you want to go. With an 83 your better off retaking the test if your eligible. So that you cab be considered for a bigger facility.

Having a 4.0 coming out of Beaver can't be bad considering that 4.0 also means you graduated w/ a CTO and not everyone on here has even talked to a "real" plane yet. Great job!!!

Josue is an enroute student, so no CTO... yet a 4.0 is quite an accomplishment, because the classes are quite difficult.

Congradulations, Josue!
