Vaughn Online
Posted: 09-22-2009, 10:04 AM Anyone know if it is required that you attend Vaughn in person for any courses? It looks like all 5 courses that I will need to take semester were offered online last spring. Is there is an actual requirement that you attend in person?

Re: Vaughn Online
Posted: 09-22-2009, 11:38 AM I e-mailed them so I'll let you guys know. This is my first semester so I did everything online. I'll definitely take four courses next semester and if I have to do one in person then I'll either postpone it until the summer so I can get it done quickly or just fly to NY one day a week for the course. It would be really fantastic in every imaginable way if they tell me I can do everything online.

Posted: 09-23-2009, 12:56 AM Tech. you can do everything online, however i highly suggest that you do not take ATC I, II and Weather online. Just for the fact your teachers are controllers and teach you things that really cannot be taught online. I am also in the fast track program started Jan 09 and i am done this Dec. In total i will have 8 Classes at vaughn and 6 courses online. My total days at the school for classes is 60 (Spring '09 (3 days x 15 weeks) (Summer '09 Online) (Fall '09 (1 day x 15)

Re: Vaughn Online
Posted: 09-23-2009, 11:20 AM I understand but I just can't justify spending $5-7k to attend a few courses in person if there is an online alternative. It isn't just the cost of being there but also the cost of my lost income since I would essentially need to quit my job.

Depending on your teacher, some online courses require more work then going in to classes. I.E most online teachers give 15 weeks of assignments, 5 quizzes, 2 tests and 5-10pg paper. If you miss an anything they take off 5-10% of your grade. I guess the real question is if you have ever had an online course? If not it is not always a cakewalk if so then you should do fine. But i do suggest taking those three courses at the school due to the fact Vaughn requires you to take a 40 hr course after graduation that is basically an ATC overview and you gotta get above an 80% on the test to be recommended. So keep that in mind you will be up at vaughn at one point.

Re: Vaughn Online
Posted: 09-23-2009, 02:06 PM OK - I got the official answer. There is one course you have to complete on campus. It is a capstone course that isn't listed in the schedules but is listed in the catalog. It is a capstone course with an actual class time of 40 hours and I'm sure that is what Rogers is referring to. So, instead of 10 courses there are actually 11 to do.
