I am going to assume that when you say "applied" you mean to an announcement like AAC-AMH-09-CTI-12655. From what I've gotten from searching through the forums is that most people hear back around the closing date of the announcement but with the way things are changing with this whole hiring process...people hear sooner (several weeks) or longer (months).

To what announcement have you applied? Are you waiting on a referral list notification?

The last time I went through this process in late '07....referral list in Oct...phone call for an interview in Feb '08, but I think things are much quicker now.

I applied to the CTI anouncment that was supposed to have closed on the 16th of October and now is changed to Sept 30 2010. Hopefully It wont take to long to hear anything. Do I have to be on one of thoes lists to get hired or can I be requested by a facility manager?

No the new announcement came out right after the 16th ended this current announcement is as follows:

Opening Date : Oct 16, 2009
Closing Date : Sep 30, 2010

the FAA will just keep the bid open, if you were in the 16th bid then you should hear something if you got on a referral list. Plus now that you have applied just sit back you have up to 3 years for them to pick you and reapply.

Most of my friends that have gone through the process have told me it took them an average of 15 months. Thats from 4 separate people who graduated from CTI up in AK.

It is pretty disgusting how long the process is, I wouldn't doubt they have a legit reason for the lengthy employment process but a year and a half is ridicules. If they hired like the military, I would would have probably been promoted and have been to 4 different countries by now!

Haha anyways the FAA needs controllers and from what I've heard they will continue to hire for the next few years so one way or another we should get in.

I graduated CTI in Miami a year ago December. Check out my timeline for specifics, but previously we had to wait until the announcement opened (4x/yr) to apply. I applied March 2, 2009. Was selected/notified June 2009, and currently waiting for a class date. Depending on your facility's need and the time it takes to completed your clearances, the timeline can vary a good amount.

I graduated with a couple people who are already in OKC, and we have also heard from people being told not to expect a class date in 2010.
