CTI Training Path
Posted: 10-30-2009, 10:43 PM Hello everyone, brand new to this forum.
I'm wondering how the CTI courses work. There is a college that is 3 1/2 hours away from where I live and I am wondering if I have to attend the college for the full 2 years or can I do basic courses here in Augusta, GA and then spend the last bit at Middle Georgia College. I'm also wondering why the FAA website says that a 4 year degree is required but there are 2 year degrees available at the approved schools? I would like to get a 4 year degree but I'm thinking that I might be tight on time because I don't get out of the Army till August 2011 and I'll be 26 Thanks for the help. |

Re: CTI Training Path
Posted: 10-31-2009, 02:07 PM You will probably have to be there for 2 years because of the sequence that you have to take the ATC courses in. You might however be able to cut out a semester. You could also make it alot easier on yourself though by taking a few classes at Augusta Tech. Also if you apply to Augusta Tech, make sure you apply as a regular student and leave your major undeclared. If you do, I would take the following courses.
1). College Algebra MATH 1111 2). Composition and Rhetoric ENGL 1101 3). Literature and Composition ENGL 1102 (Must take ENGL 1101 first) 4). American Literature ENGL 2130 (Must Take ENGL 1101 first) 5). Technical Communications ENGL 1105 (Must take ENGL 1101 first) 6.) Introduction to Microcomputers SCT 100 (Must take ENGL 1101 and MATH 1111 first) So if you took 2 classes a quarter, starting this winter quarter, you could knock out about 18 hours of credit in 3 quarters. That would be about all I would take outside of MGC for the 2 year degree. Here's MGC's 2 year plan of study outline http://www.mgc.edu/aviation/PDF/AASDegreeATC.pdf The reason I say go to Augusta Tech instead of Augusta State is 1). It's cheaper and 2.) Most of the above classes are both on campus and online. |

Re: CTI Training Path
Posted: 10-31-2009, 04:42 PM Wow you really did some research, thank you. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to move or live away from home for that long. I just bought a house in April and my wife is going to start nursing in May of next year.
I wanted her to get experience before we had to move and look for a job in another city. |
