I began taking aviation classes at UAA in August of 2007. I started in their professional piloting program, however, upon receiving my private rating in 2009 I realized I wasn't going to be able to complete the entire program unless I started receiving massive amounts of student loans to pay for the flight time. I wouldn't recommend UAA for flight training. They have a lot of trouble keeping their A/C in service and it is extremely overpriced.

The CTI program on the other hand w... [Read More]

UAA is rightly ranked 3rd, it has fallen short of the top two rankings for a reason. Anyone who chooses this course for their careers will not regret it by any means, but they would be justified to seek out the higher ranked best schools that are ahead of UAA.

You can learn most of the basics of ATC with the courses offered, few essentials, and even fewer insight into real world air traffic control. The professors do their best, but as one reviewer already mentioned, they don't... [Read More]

The University of Alaska Anchorage is a school unlike any other. Situated on Merrill Field, in the middle of Downtown Anchorage, The Avation Complex is surrounded by hundreds of small GA aircraft. If you can think of a small plane, I guarantee it is there! The building is very technologically advanced. Inside are three professional level simuator labs. The first is the Professional Piloting Progam Labs, complete with four simulators. The middle is the ATC Tower Simulator. You walk up a small fli... [Read More]

The UAA ATC Program is in my opinion top notch. I am a UAA graduate that is attending the Academy now. I am know experiencing first hand the level of knowledge other CTI programs offer. Allthough they all seem to be good programs for basic knowledge of the ATC system, UAA uses a very hands on approach. All the CTI students that I have talked with are in awe of the level of training we have entering the academy. I am an Alaska Resident so the cost of the program for me was nothing compared to non... If you already live in Alaska, it is a no brainer to go here. Out of state tuition is expensive but the WUE program is available for residents from some states in the Western US in which you pay 150% of resident tuition. Housing made up the bulk of the cost to attend.

Teaching Staff is the #1 reason I would recommend UAA. They have three full time ATC instructors all of whom have worked as controllers. Labs are taught by these three instructors complemented by part time current ... [Read More]
