Vaughn College Review

Posted by: swash176 on 01-23-2011
As a current student at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, this past semester at the school I finished taking my last ATC class and have set up a date to take my AT-SAT. Vaughn's AT-CTI requirements are 4 classes FLT 231 Aviation Weather lab & Lecture, FLT 350 Basic Air Traffic Control lab and lecture, FLT 351 Basic Air Traffic Control II lab and lecture, and last FLT 352 Basic ATC capstone review class which is taken after you graduate so when you go to Oklahoma City you can be fresh and up to date. One thing about the CTI program is that it is a minor study so it is combined with a major in another study.

Curriculum: This CTI college has a great curriculum and you can really learn from being in this school, although I feel that any class that is not aviation related are a bit on the easier side. This school really focuses on the aviation side way more than normal academics. Then again this is an aviation school.

Price: The price of this school is very affordable compared to other aviation schools! Most people who receive financial aid usually get some type of refund check at the end of the year. Although I feel some of the lab fees that are added on top of your tuition from the flight ops side of the school are a bit hefty for the fact that they don't count toward anything and can not be logged in your log book. Also some of the classes’ prerequisite requires that you take an FAA exam which can run you about $150 each, which is separate from your tuition.

Teaching Staff: The professors here are great; most of them will go out of their way to assist you with your education! Most of the teaching staff are actively working in the aviation industry or have work many years and have great experience within the industry. As far the CTI staff they are some of the best instructors in the school, all working as controllers and still finding the time to come and teach the future controller.

Nearby Activities: In the immediate area of the school there’s really nothing to do, the school has its own observation tower right at the approach end of RWY 4 of New York’s LaGuardia Airport. As far as other activities if you’re willing to take a drive or ride the NYC transit the city is not too far and there are a number of things you can find to do! Its NYC never a dull time there.
