FCCJ in FALL 09
Posted: 08-03-2009, 09:23 AM

I'm moving to jacksonville for the CTI program they have there. I'm registered and all, just trying to find a place to live that costs about 400 or 500 all utilities payed. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm trying to find someone who needs a roommate. I've tried all the roommate finders, and have had some terrible luck. I don't know anyone in jacksonville cuz I'm from Tampa. Again, this is FCCJ in jacksonville, near the Cecil Aviation Center for their air traffic controller program.

I've worked for an A/V company for a couple years, just dropping that to do what I really want to do in life. Be an air traffic controller. I'm 24 now, so I figured I better get on with it.

Just send me a message or reply to this post if you're in the jax area.

Thanks
Chris

Why not go to FCCJ for the atc program? I have been talking to them about maybe attending in the spring of next year (when im done with iraq). I'm considering FCCJ or L-3 Link....FCCJ will be alot cheaper for me, and im 27, so i need to get a move on, and try to finish the program in about a year. They have the "ATC Certificate" Program (not sure what that will do for me).......and the AS in Aviation Operations (which is the CTI program, so i will prob do this one)..........

Does anyone have Pro's and Con's with FCCJ? or does it even matter what school you attend or even if you get an BS or AS....as long as you get recommended under the CTI announcement, once you get hired...doesnt everyone start out, and get payed the same? Im really curious about this....

oops. i meant that I DO NOT go to fccj for the atc program. not putting a recommendation against it... i love fccj. i just don't want to go to school to "learn" something that i do everyday of my life. i decided i would rather pursue something i knew nothing about, like economics or something.

i've got another room for rent!!! you two could be study buddies.

jacksonville is ok.. it rains.. and then the sun comes out and its hot and sticky. there is a beach. and there is murder (north side mostly.... unless you are an immigrant, then stay away from southside.)

downtown is a 3/10 in overall convenience, safety, and fun. if you get a place downtown expect to drive 20 minutes to a decent grocery store. go to wikipedia and look up "white flight." that happened in the 50s, and the inner city has still not recovered fully.

but..... there are a lot of fun things in jacksonville too. including the beach. 4th of july at the beach is ridiculous. all day event... easily 20,000 bicycles down there... everyone cruising with a beer in their hand. florida/georgia (college football) weekend is probably the craziest it gets... and if you like the jags, there are ALWAYS tickets.

and you cant forget the jacksonville suns (marlins AA baseball team.) thirsty thursday is a blast.. you and 3,000 of your closest friends get $1 beers all night at the ball park.

it's all what you make of it. lots of history in this city. and close distance to much cooler towns like st. augustine.

I still have lots of time to think about it......because im not planning on starting til spring next year...but once i leave iraq in dec....i dont want to be crunchin it trying to get settled in. oh..beach villa sounds nice..i will check it out!
