Florida Institute of Technology

The college offers an air traffic control (ATC) specialization in conjunction with any of its seven bachelor’s degrees. The ATC specialization meets the requirements of the FAA’s Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) program and is FAA-approved.
This program provides graduates with in-depth knowledge of ATC and the aviation industry to ensure graduates possess the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in testing and training, and as air traffic controllers.

While no AT–CTI program graduates are guaranteed employment, the FAA considers these graduates to be a valuable hiring source for air traffic control specialist positions nationwide. On successful completion of this program and recommendation from the dean, graduates are further required by the FAA to achieve a passing score on the FAA-administered Air Traffic Selection and Training (AT-SAT) test battery, attend the FAA academy (bypassing the first five weeks) and successfully complete the on-site initial qualification training.

FIT is no joke and to graduate on time most people take up to 18 credit hours a semester. It is somewhat expensive and harder than most colleges. I'm almost positive you have to have a 4 year degree, usually an add-on of some type in aviation. The add-on courses to the 4 year degree in aviation are: ATC I, ATC II, and Aviation Weather. They have simulators, but are a bit old. The CTI approved schools don't need simulators, so that is a plus. The professor there teaching the classes is great and has a lot of experience in ATC from the military and is also currently working at KMLB tower.

I'll second what another poster said. I did my undergrad at FIT, and my grad work through ERAU. FIT really is no joke. I was Aviation Meteorology, and it was a VERY difficult program. The school is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. For me the location was perfect-- near the beach, great flying, great weather, and the campus is beautiful. If you've got the $$$, I'd highly recommend!

FIT is a great university with an amazing campus. You get that college feel, without the jet fumes because their flight line is a free shuttle ride away. The Professors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, my advisor always made himself available to talk. They have a seven class specialization for ATC, which can be achieved with any of their undergraduate majors. You really should join the ATC club, their activities, trips and contacts are amazing! The students in the classes and club are extremely helpful. Students can access the ATC lab and work on projects or just have fun on their own. The great part of F.I.T.'s program is that it is a 4-year program which allows graduates the opportunity to enter into a supervisory position as a controller. Another benefit is that they are planning a new and updated ATC lab, which will be sweet. You cannot beat the location - beach, beach, beach! If you are ever in the area, you must stop by and take a look.
