Lewis University - Ratings - Reviews Summary
Attention to detail, laser-like focus and the ability to handle big responsibilities … if that sounds like you, then you might be a good candidate for a career in air traffic control.

Lewis University's nationally recognized aviation department offers an associate degree or a bachelor of science degree in air traffic control management. Either degree will provide you with the basic knowledge and technical training needed to pursue your career. Classroom instruction, laboratory simulations and hands-on learning sessions in Lewis' state-of-the-art facilities will give you the experience you need.
Lewis' curriculum is tailored to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic facilities, and students learn according to the foundation designated by the FAA. This prepares students for entry into the FAA Academy, where they will complete their air traffic control training. All students will need to pass the AT-SAT Aptitude Test before their final training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City.

Lewis University is a very nice campus and very small. The school is mostly known for aviation. The class sizes range from 20 to 30 and the teachers actually do take an interest in their students. The one thing that I did not like there was that it was basically the same teachers over and over again throughout the four years. It was nice knowing what the teacher expected from taking them before, but if you did not get along with a certain teacher you had no other choices because they were the only one that taught the class. Tuition is pretty expensive at more than 10,000 a semester (not including room and board). If you plan on going to Lewis for a party school think again. The majority of the students commute and the campus is all by itself. Nothing is within walking distance. Overall, I would recommend going there but not living on campus.

I love it here at Lewis University. I believe that the intimate campus size creates a better enviornment for learning. The best thing about being at Lewis is that all of your professors are actually Pilots, Senior Air Traffic Controllers, or Meteorologists... Its a great way to network as well with none other than the legends of the field that your trying to become a part of. Its true that the staff is very small, and therefore if you didnt like a professors teaching style, theres a good chance that you might have to take him/her again. But on the flip side... Ive been there 2 years and it has only happened to me once... most people in the aviation community are very free spirited and fun to be around. The Campus is beautiful, and the dorms are hit and miss... Some are very nice, and others... well lets just say ive seen better... But thats college life for you. The city of chicago isnt far at all, so there is plenty to do on the weekends... Like I said... I love it here
