    Re: Fort Huachuca

There are no military controllers here at all. The guard could be working at davis monthan or out of a tactical unit in Phx. JM-I'll pass it along to him. There isn't any opportunity to cross train here. Tower is 11 and we are 12s down in radar. I'd love to head up there but it just isn't going to happen. If you've gotten a call from HR and started the process, chances are you'll be offered the job. After you get your clearance done you'll get an email with a TOL. You're next call will be about a flight physical. Once all that paperwork gets finished you'll be offered the job officially. DoD is getting tight on the budget so i'd suggest accepting the offer since there won't be any others forthcoming. At least not from here. FHU is an awesome place to work and well worth living in southern arizona. As i'm typing this i'm looking at some very nice snow capped mountains. Good luck!

Its not too bad. It definately cuts down on a lot of coordination with the tower. It can be improved though.

I figured I'd post a status update for other people going through the process. I got an email Feb 16th saying that my security clearance was done but that they are still waiting on the final letter for my medical clearance. It is taking a little bit because I had to get a waiver for my blood pressure medication.
Once the doctors put their stamp of approval on the waiver, HR in Arizona says I will get my starting date!

    Hello,
I am a current FAA controller at DFW and looking at possibly retiring in the near future and relocating to Sierra Vista. I have a current Class 2 physical and am under age 56 for a few more years. What is the process involved to be considered for a position at Fort Huachuca as a controller? I have 23 years FAA experience and an additional 9 of US Navy prior to that. I would appreciate any help and advice that you could give me.

    Thank you

    Jerry

Jerry, DOD is just like the FAA, You look for open bids, bid on the job, and hope to be selected. Good luck. USAJOBS - The Federal Government’s Official Jobs Site

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if Fort Huachuca was DOD, FAA or Civilian Contract Tower. I will most likely hang up my headset when I retire from the FAA and call it a career, but who knows.

Joe - I have a CTO thank you. Burned up the program at PRC, when I was with the FAA. How's things with you? Josh Will be here in a week, looking forward to having more Marines here.... Figured you would be interested in heading back west, are you? Iwakuni was hiring two, are you trying to get anywhere else?

Here is a question for anyone out there. If I were to retire from the FAA and then subsequently get a job with the DOD, does it affect my retirement from the FAA or are the FAA and DOD two separate entities?
