    No More DOD Age Waivers?

I heard that DOD/DON was no longer accepting age waivers. Anyone know if this is true?

It could be a DON thing but I haven't heard anything. I know age waivers were given recently within DOD.

Not true, heard my old job (Pax River) recently hired 2 retirees who would've needed a waiver. Where'd you hear this from?

Here's a snippet from a recent DOD job announcement. It mentions an age waiver.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL – MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: A maximum age of 36 years is established for original entry into those civilian air traffic control positions covered by Public Law (P.L.) 96-347. Applicants over the age limits must meet re-entry or age waiver requirements in accordance with DOD 1400.25.M, Department of Defense Civilian Personnel Manual, Subchapter 331, Civilian Air Traffic Controllers.

Do they put out DOD announcements for civilians only where military membership is not required? I check frequently and most that I see require you to be a member of the Air National Guard. I imagine if they do they are few and far between.

On USA Jobs you have to click the button on the left hand side saying "Jobs For Federal Employees" since none are technically entry level positions.

The info is for someone who has been working for a private contract tower for the past couple of years. He's never been a federal employee so he wouldn't be able to apply to an announcement specifically for federal employees. Just wondering if the DOD is an option without joining the military if he ages out of getting hired with the FAA. Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: No More DOD Age Waivers?

Read the actual job announcements and see what the requirements are. I've never been a federal employee (military service is different that civil service) but my veteran preference allows me to apply to most federal jobs. But, chances are if he has contract tower and contract tower experience only, he wont be qualified for a DoD job. The thing with the DoD is, even for people with legit experience, each base has tons of former military controllers who have already proven themselves to be capable of working there. So why take your chances on someone else?

I know a current DoD controller that received an age waiver to come on board with the DoD. He recently applied for the FAA and was told that the age waiver he received to get on with the DoD wouldn't transfer over to the FAA.
