For those that are pursuing a DoD job, there should be an announcement out on USAJOBS in March/April timeframe for a GS-10 Line Controller position here at KCOF/KXMR here in FL ......

Key is to have a killer resume, with multiple CTOs and varied experience. Each announcement generates over 300 applicants and is very competitive. Grammer, Grammer and Punctuation people!

Detail your experience.....and pay attention to the KSAs and Keywords...lol! You wouldn't believe what some controllers submit........

I was told that like 40 people applied to where I got hired and less than 10 of them had coherent resumes outlining why they were qualified and showing proof. They basically said the same thing about some of the stuff people send them.

VM, do your hiring officials prefer the experience in bullet format, or paragraph format? I wont be applying to the FL job, but for future reference it would be nice to know. I know some fac's don't necessarily have a preference (like ours), but some do. However, like you said, grammar/syntax is (and should be) important.

At this facility there have been both types of submissions, and both types have been successful, but a bullet type sentences formatted in a concise paragraphs have gone over the best. Easy to read and follow along and sets a mental picture. Stay away from flowery type prose and too many strong adjectives, but a few power words don't hurt. The main thing is to key in on the KSAs and key words like type equipment, experience, complexity in the job description and tailor your resume to zero in on the key words, etc... This will also help get your resume pulled and forwarded to the selecting officials at HRO.

lol. i just know the type.

KSAs, EPRs, award boards...it's all fluff. tell me the facilities you've worked and i'll know what your skill set is. you don't have to tell me that you "single handedly saved the air force 10 million dollars a year" just because you taxi an aircraft to the runway.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, the system that "filters' the resumes focus' in of all the factors VM is talking about. It's sad that it's not how well you describe past experience, but how well you tailor you resume to include all of the "key phrases" from the announcement.

DOD atc jobs are the biggest racket in the history of federal jobs. almost always they already have a brand new retiree slotted in for the job... which doesnt open up until said crony retires.

Heh, I called the DoD tower here where I live and the controller, on a recorded line, told me that they would be putting out a bid in the next month or so, but that it was already filled. I knew the tower chief, so I told him he might need to tell his people how to lie.
