CPOL website update...
Posted: 08-29-2010, 07:26 AM Well, my question has been answered...why the CPOL site was down most of yesterday.
They have updated the "status tracking" page to reflect the number of applicants who have applied for each position. Interesting, or discouraging depending on how you look at it. It does put things in perspective as I look at my ATC app's (1 in 4 of what I am eligible for). Sure enough, 200-250 per announcement - now if they would just add a "referred for position" column! Never mind... ![]() |

Re: CPOL website update...
Posted: 08-31-2010, 04:18 PM The local CPAC office used to only forward what they called the "Top 3" but that ended some time ago. No hiring official wants to sift through 20 to 30 apps so most offices have certain numbers they are looking for. 10% is a pretty safe figure with 8-10 being the minimum but nothing is mandated.
I had 45 apps for my last opening (it was a "local hire" only situation) and CPAC forwarded 10 names, I interviewed 3...in the end, if the hiring official does not like what he's seeing - he can request more. The local HR director can pretty much chose what the standard is - if you got referred, you can expect to be in competition with the top 10%, maybe a bit more. |

Re: CPOL website update...
Posted: 08-31-2010, 04:22 PM What's the deal with "local hire" anyway? I mean if I'm willing to relocate at my own expense... I know that would be a different story for an overseas job like you have, but I've seen that a bit in applications stateside recently too. Never really understood.

Re: CPOL website update...
Posted: 08-31-2010, 04:34 PM Could be the hiring officials way of getting his local "bud" under his wing...
...but typically is a cost saving measure. My announcement actually said "within the local commuting area" and was purely driven by the fact that it was a "term" (temp) position and the garrison wanted an immediate fill AND no expense in moving someone (or waiting for them to move!). I'm sure there are other "legitimate reasons" for this stipulation ![]() |

Re: CPOL website update...
Posted: 08-31-2010, 05:14 PM I suppose that makes sense. Wish I could throw in "I can be there tomorrow for free if you need"

Re: CPOL website update...
Posted: 09-04-2010, 10:59 PM This would be a nice feature for the AF jobs! At least that way you kinda have an idea of the odds you're up against.
Then they could go one step further and let us know how many applicants were referred. I know, wishful thinking and asking too much... |
