Question for the DOD folks
Posted: 03-10-2009, 10:01 AM

How long does it typically take from the time the facility manager sends HR the list until HR contacts potential hires? Does HR usually call or do they e-mail you?

My experience was the ATM sent the list for who he selected and I was notified about 2 weeks later.

I was called by HR and offered a job, then was sent an e-mail with all the paperwork to fill out.

I dunno about that. I didn't know anybody and I know of other people that got picked up in the past that didn't. Networking never hurts though, that's for sure.

Its not all the time you are right, but most DOD positions are filled before the announcement even comes out. They just have to legally post the job opening.

I am trying to get a DA job at Ft Bragg. I have contacted the ATM there and he told me call back in 3 weeks, because he does not know when a stop will be lifted for the open position. Didn't really get in to much with him. Is this a good sign or am I still at square one? Any advice for me? I turn 35 this May and am over seas with the Army as a contractor and want to get back to the States with my family.

Cant speak for everyone, but at POE, the HR calls you. It takes a week or 2 after the selection, why? IDK

Brew, once the selecting official makes the decision, the list gets sent over to HR of the top 3 candidates, and then HR immediately starts the contacting process. Meaning if there is only 1 slot, they contact number one on the list, which can be either phone or e-mail, or both.

They will attempt to contact via the information you provided in your application for 72 hours as long as the phone is connected and they are able to leave a VM, and e-mails don't get bounced back. If they can't make contact, they go to the next one on the list, and so on.

Once they have verified contact, by either e-mail relpy or return phone call, you, the applicant, have 48 hours to accept the tentative position. I say tentative, because it is not a formal offer until you provide copies of all the documentation, they request, as well as complete the application packet that they will send or e-mail to you.

After that initial 48 hours, there are other deadlines that you have to meet, and if you fail to do so w/o coordination or approval from the HR specialist handling your case, you can be removed from consideration and they will move on to the next candidate on the list.

If you turn down the offer, then HR will go to the next person on the list. If all 3 turn down the offer or are unable to be contacted, rare occurrence. Then HR will send the list back to the selecting official to re-select additional qualified candidates. There is no requirement to re-announce the position, or do another recert of the list since the selecting official probably has a top 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 list. The only time there will be a reannouncement, is if there were no qualified applicants after the top 5 or someone accepts the job and then turns it down a month or more later after the cert has expired. Again rare occurrence.

Every announcement here has generated over 300 applicants to review.

So in short, it happens pretty fast once HR gets the list from the selecting official. The rest was just good information....lol!
