Potential DOD Openings?
Posted: 09-17-2009, 01:24 PM Hello fellow Stuck Micker's and ATC's. I'm a recently retired Navy controller and looking for any potential leads on DOD openings that maybe coming up. Not really picky on locations at this point, just ready to get back to controlling and working. Thanks ya'll.

Posted: 09-20-2009, 03:19 AM You have a USA jobs resume filled out? Even with a lead...they will still require your application from USA Jobs. That's definately the first step.
As far as leads, I don't have specific locations, but I have seen an uptick in slots becoming available throughout the AF. I know that Nellis AFB seems to always have openings. |

Start calling all of your friends, and even just people that you know and probably have a neutral to favorable opinion of you, that are in management in facilities that you are interested in. Shoot the breeze and then let it be known that you are interested. Don't be obnoxious but keep in contact. Even contact with line controllers who can give you gouge on who is retiring etc. can be helpful. If they are tight with the hiring manager, they can drop your name. Write a detailed, well formatted, acurate resume. Don't try to inflate your qualifications, you know it's a small world and people can generally detect B.S. in the resume. If you do all of that, you should get referred and the hring manager should recognize your name. That goes a long way. Additionally, you really can't over network. Use Facebook and Together We Served to get in contact with people who are out and may be working DOD, they may be able to help you get in some place. Don't overlook former squids that may be working at another branch of service. While components like to hire their own, it's certainly not rare for people to get hired in a differen service than they were active duty with. |
