You must be at an Army facility? I've heard a little about this. Can you provide more information on this hiring freeze?

I finally got referred to a position in NC. Its range control but its a ATC position. Even if I don't get it.. It feels good to get referred finally. Weird I know. I did get the old you were not in the group of best qualified letter today for an ATC job I applied for with the AF at Wright AFB in Ohio

Pretty sure its just local. The funding isnt there from the higher ups....strange considering its a new fiscal year and all. I guess the new administration has something to do with it.

If you are were not in a controller position DoD/FAA prior to your 31st birthday, whether currently active or inactive controlling traffic, or you are not retired military, it is all a matter of which DoD facility will give you an age waiver, and they like to save those for who they know or retirees that have paid their dues.

As a retired Marine, I was fortunate to get one with the USAF. I was picked up before I even dropped retirement papers, and started while I was on terminal leave. All in a matter of less than 4 months.

Funny thing in my case, I didn't know anyone here at the facility that hired me, and I am the only non AF type in an all civilian tower. So, I am the exception, rather than the norm.

Most of the Marine Controllers that I know working DoD civilian in the AF all transferred in from other DoD Component positions.

I will say, that according to the selecting officials back in 2006, I was told that having a killer resume is what put me over the top out of the many applications they reviewed. The fact that I had 8 CTOs, and 4 TRACON ratings didn't hurt either....lol!

I think the age requirement has changed but I will turn 36 this month so my days of getting into DOD are numbered unless I get a waiver of some kind. Just not enough controller jobs to go around...
