On October 30th one of our fellow workers, Dan Wiita from Cleveland Center (formally Houston Center), had a sudden change in the life that he had enjoyed with his family. His 18 year old son, Kory, suffered a severe spinal injury during a high school football game. Since that time Dan and his wife Mariann, Kory and the rest of his family have gone through hell.
Surgeries have been performed, miracles have been prayed for and Kory is alive, but still very unsure of his future. You can follow his journal at a great website:
www.wiita.com. I will not go into the medical stuff in this letter, but suffice it to say this situation is Serious, with a capital S. What I am doing is asking for help for Dan and his family. The future is very uncertain for all of them, what was to be a normal “Friday night lights” event, has turned into challenges that no one in the family could have contemplated. Dan and his family could use some help beyond the food that has been brought, the yard work that friends took care of, the medical procedures that the doctors have performed and the prayers that have been prayed. Dan and his family, going forward, will need what is the basis of much of our lives, MONEY.
A lot can be achieved through the massive numbers of NATCA brothers and sisters. Just a little from each of us can help improve Kory's life in the future, or someone else’s if Kory’s needs are met. We can each do something to help a fellow controller, and his 18 year old son. We have all suffered tragedies, challenges and personal tests in the past, and we will in the future. Knowing that our fellow personnel will help is what makes our world, and our organization, strong.
I am asking you to help. Whatever you see fit. An hour’s pay or a weeks. One dollar or a hundred. A onetime commitment or a gift from each paycheck for a month, six months, or a year. This kid is one of ours. Our fellow workers child, just like yours and mine, who deserves our help at what must be the most horrible time of his life. We are air traffic controllers, not doctors, but we can help Dan and Kory and their family in the most simplest of ways, by taking a bit of the financial burden off of them. By giving what we can, financial assistance, so the doctors can perform their miracles, and Dan and his wife can support their child with all they have. So please send a donation to:
