Hey everyone! So what are everybody's feelings about attending the Academy? Anyone nervous? I know everyone is excited, right? To those who have attended already, how many people actually fail? In one post on here (SM) I saw that the pass rate is 99.99%. Is that an accurate figure? So who is in the 0.01% that don't make it, and why did they not make it? I only ask because I am not a CTI grad, nor did I attend the CTI school. Last time I was in school was ten years ago at A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) school. I passed, but we were graded, it was not pass / fail. My average was usually in the ballpark of 2.83 to 3.17 for what its worth. I'm just trying to prepare my self as best as possible since failure is not an option, for any of us! Suggestions?

Supp peoples?

What is everyone bringing to OKC in terms of computers? I ask because I was planning on driving and bringing my own, but, based on my readings here, I may just opt to fly. Not really sure yet. That being said, I would not be able to bring my mac. So, a few questions, bare with me please.

1) Why bring a computer? I imagine for homework, studying, notes, and using the net when time permits. Can those who have been to the Academy please elaborate? Failure at the Academy is not an option (for any of us), so I'm trying to position myself for success by any means necessary!

2) iMac / PC or Laptop? Again, I'm not about to ship my mac over to okc, and sure as hell will not be trusting it to FedEx! But, has anyone had a good experience shipping their belongings out to the Academy?

3) Could one get by with a smart device? Such as an iPhone, iPad, or Android smart phone?

Now don't get me wrong, I could get by for three months without the computer, but, I'm looking for people who have already attended to elaborate. One reason I would need any of the above is to do my finances or budget so I can send that data back home along with money to get the bills paid. Know what I mean? Also keep in mind I'm on a budget, up to about a G if I really have to fork it out, as it will be worth the investment on education. Thanks guys!

I just received my class date of Nov 10. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get out there? I live in Jacksonville, FL should I drive or fly? I talked with someone who told me if I drive out I get to pocket some money since the FAA pays a set rate for air travel out and back? Can anyone help explain how the travel works in greater detail? Thanks

Ever seen one of these before? Amazon.com: Livescribe 4 GB Pulse Smartpen: Electronics If you're not familiar with how they work, they have an embedded camera and will record your notes so you can review them later on a computer, print them, post them, share them, whatever. There's also an audio recorder; when you tap on whatever you were writing earlier, it'll play audio from that moment in time.

Anyway, I got a crazy good deal on one the other day and am debating whether I want to flip it for a profit or hold onto it for the Academy. It seems like it'd be helpful for classroom stuff and linking things to what we learn from the .65, but obviously not so helpful when it comes time to spending long hours on sims.

Opinions?

To all VRA applicants in OKC or going to OKC...

The FAA has a VRA bonus for controllers w/ either a CTO or APP OJTI quals that have 52 weeks of experience. If your not sure if you are eligable just ask your HR rep when you get here. I was all on it but 2 other VRA students in my class had no idea about it, I told them to ask and their HR rep did their paperwork to see if they were eligable. They haven't recieved an answer yet because we did the paperwork a week ago, but the worst answer you can get is "your not eligable". It's 100% worth it to try. It comes w/ a 2 year commitment (which I'm pretty sure your planning on being a FAA controller for longer than that anyway), and it's $20k.

Check it out!!!!

How is OKC traffic headed to the academy in the mornings. Are there any areas that are bottlenecks to be aware of?

Specifically I'll be staying near Tinker AFB, in Midwest City, so is there anything I should be aware of? According to google maps it looks to be about a 25 minute commute.
