Snow Storm
Posted: 02-07-2010, 09:28 AM

I was scheduled to leave for Okc this morning, but due to the snow storm my flight was canceled and I cant be rescheduled until tomorrow evening 2-8-10 which is actually the day I was supposed to start. I looked in my welcome packet and called the contact numbers, but because its Sun didnt get an answer. Anyone have any suggestions or has this happened to anyone else?

thanks

Im in the same boat... My southwest flight was cancelled yesterday. I had another flight with United, but was just cancelled. I've been calling American Express business travel all morning with no answer. I'm not sure what we can do...

It's out of your control. The best advice I can give you suggest is to call OKC tomorrow morning and inform them of it. We may not have class tomorrow.

If you can't get there tonight my advice would be to take a flight that leaves no earlier then 8:30 AM Central. That way you have time to talk to your HR rep before you get on the plane. If they tell you monday classes are canceled, you're good. If they tell you you're SOL and will have to wait till FY11 for another class, then at least you hadn't gotten on the plane yet.

Don't worry, it's HIGHLY unlikely that they'll tell you that you're SOL and take you out of class altogether. They know about all the weather problems and they will probably be very understanding, providing you get out on the first available flight that you can find. I would call them at open of business tomorrow and also try getting on the earliest flight that you can. Even if your flight is before they open, I would take it and then call as soon as you land.

If you do leave before you can get through to your rep I would leave a voicemail and email explaining the situation.

If you're flying into OKC/Will Rogers, the last snow/ice storm killed traffic there for 2 days, and they are just recovering from that so they are a little ballistic. But definitely call as soon as you can; I believe the HR reps start at 8 AM Central time. Afternoon classes may be canceled tomorrow if the snow starts earlier than expected or comes down faster than expected.

They may be more forgiving with those who haven't actually started yet, but they were pretty explicit about us going anywhere for Christmas and not being back for the start of class the following Monday. Their words were something like "if you go somewhere and don't make it back because of the weather there is a good chance you'll come back to no job, so make a good decision about any travel plans"

I had a ticket home and just cancelled it because the weather was questionable, and I didn't care to risk it. Multiple others in my class ended up doing the same thing.

I just talked to an after hours duty officer. He said these things happen a lot so it shouldn't be a big deal. He is going to leave a message with student services, but advised me to call in the morning. I booked another flight, but won't be arriving until 6pm. The flights are filling up quick, schedule asap.

After hours, MMAC Duty Officer (405) 954-3583
