FAA closing academy for En Route?
Posted: 01-27-2012, 10:09 PM I heard from a fairly reliable source that the FAA will no longer be training En Route new hires at the academy. They will instead be training at their facility. Terminal would still train at the academy since many facilities are too small. Wondering if there is any validity to this?

Re: FAA closing academy for En Route?
Posted: 01-28-2012, 06:58 PM Not any time in the next few years. Some reasons: the Academy just got through revamping training and evaluating for ERAM, it would require a large shift in instructors from the MMAC to individual facilities, many Centers aren't equipped to deal with their current training workload let alone adding Initial training, Initial courses are still being scheduled on the Academy website, the curricula are different and require different teaching techniques, it would impact standardization, there are higher priority training issues that would be dealt with first, ERAM needs to be in place systemwide before a change like that could be made... the list could go on.
They might have meant that as a "one day in the distant future" thing. |
