Where to stay in OK? What say you?
Posted: 08-02-2009, 01:01 PM

Now, I know there's information around and about in regards to housing and where people like to stay when they get to the academy. But, I wanted to start a new thread ONLY pertaining to where people would recommend parking their rears and why. This includes renting apartments and furniture, renting space in peoples' homes, hotels, gov. housing... etc.

Yea, I've seen those, I was looking for less "formal" reviews and perhaps on different places as well.

I'm not sure what is in the reviews, but Spanish Gardens is an excellent choice for OKC. The grounds were nice, it's a gated community, nice pool, etc. The furnished apartment was very nice also, and had almost everything I needed. Sorry, a little short on time now, but I would HIGHLY recommend Spanish Gardens.

I am at The Fairways @ Moore. I really like it. If you have a roommate it is 30/day. This includes high speed internet, utilities, a maid service once a week and a fully furnished apt. The furnishings are very nice too. Leather couches, queen sized beds, your own bathroom and a full sized kitchen. Also have your own seperate washer and dryer. It is about a 20 min. drive to work. You also get golf, and all you pay is a cart fee. There is also a TV in each bedroom and a TV in the living room with a DVD player. All kitchen utensils that you need, dishwasher, etc. They also have a coffee maker for you as well. I have enjoyed it so far. Mgmt is nice. They have a pool, workout facility, lighted tennis/basketball courts as well. Convienient to tons of restaurants/shopping outlets/movie theater. I would highly recommend it.

When I was at the academy I stayed at Walnut Gardens. The first week I was here I tried getting an apartment on my own and renting furniture and hooking up everything on my own, and let me tell you- it's just a PIA that I didn't want to deal with while I'm here. Walnut Gardens isn't a luxury style living, but it was suited perfectly for what I needed. A big one bedroom with everything included in the price. Perhaps the best part was there were about 10 people frmo my class staying there, so it was a pretty social scene. I think the rest of the people from my class stayed at Isola Bella, which is also nice (but a bit further from the academy). Neither of these places are in a GREAT part of town- but I was there almost 5 months and didn't find one area that I truly liked... so go figure.

Walnut is in a gated community and the staff were very nice and accommodating. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was the BEST option out there but it definitely suited me well...

That's why, if I make it, I am taking an enflatable bed and maybe buy a cheap chair when I get there. I would need the per diem to help me move when I leave OKC. Chicago living is not cheap and am I sure my apartment is going to demand a deposit because ZAU is in a semi bad side of town.

Student suites of Mustang, great place to live. Highly recommended! You name it, the duplex's have it, and they're brand new. Check them out!

Then may I suggest that we'd be roomies if the class dates fall close? I can picture us sitting in PJ's slurping top ramen noodles... Seriously, I'll be looking for a roommate
