Health Insurance
Does anyone know when your health insurance begins when going to the Academy? I'm trying to see how much Cobra I need after I leave my old job. Thanks for the help!

health benefits do not start until your an AG. so the day you LEAVE OKC.

Incorrect. Health benefits will begin 1 pay period after you sign up.

okay. 1 pay period after the day you become an AG. you are not eligible for it until after the academy. it's not necessarily 1 pay period after you sign up. i tried signing up for it in the academy and they said i wasn't eligible until i graduate.

You Are Eligable For Health Insurance At The Academy!
You sign up at the Academy, and it'll be implemented the week of your first paycheck from the academy or earlier, just depends, but you will get it if you sign up for it at the Academy.
I am at the academy and I don't get paid until this coming tuesday, Oct 21st and I am already insured through what i signed up for.

That makes better sense. It seems a little funny that they would make you be uninsured/unprotected for 3 months. We are all young and healthy, but I certainly wouldn't want to take that chance.

really? that has to be a change. when i was there in 2006 i was uninsured, along with everyone else in my class, until we graduated. i held on to my previous insurance until then.
i'm glad to hear they changed that BS. be sure though that this is true, because it hasn't always been true.
