Stuff to do in OKC
So I've been doing a little research into what there is to do in OKC on the weekends and found the usual downtown area etc. I found the OKC Blazers Hockey team. $10 for 10th row seats. Anyone know if they are any good? lol I'm a huge hockey fan and wouldn't mind getting to see a few games.
I've also heard of a bar with a bull riding ring in it too. That sounds like it can be...interesting hah!
So what did you guys do in your spare time besides study/drink??? Let's hear it!
(Yeah yeah I know - I should be focusing on studying but we gotta have some fun too right?)

They still have that team? My high school coach played for them back in the early 90s.

evidently... I can buy tickets on ticketmaster so lol.
Found this website too Oklahoma Entertainment
Seems to have a lot of good information on bars and typical hunting season openings. Hopefully they'll update it for 2009.

Re: Stuff to do in OKC
The coach of the Blazers was at Buffalo Wild Wings last night when I was up there. Didn't talk to him though...

Enough sausagefest.
Where's the cheapest place to buy tequila, who makes the best french fries, are there any ethnic grocery stores, etc.?

Re: Stuff to do in OKC
Ok...so this isn't something to do on a wild Saturday night...but when I took my AT-SAT in OKC, between finishing the test and catching my flight home I visited the Federal Building Bombing Site Memorial. It was VERY moving--VERY much worth seeing. There is also a museum there that I didn't get a chance to tour. However, I will go through the museum when I get back to OKC. This is something everyone should visit during their stay in OKC.

Re: Stuff to do in OKC
The bombing memorial site is a must see. As for bars to go to, Rodeo is an interesting place indeed. Go on a Friday night or Sat. night for the bull riding it is interesting for someone who has never seen such a thing like myself. It is one of the weirdest night clubs I have ever been to, they have everything from line dancing, 3 step, and rap. Then the lights move over to the bull riding ring every 30 minutes or hour for some action over there. It is the closest night club to the FAA housing.
Otherwise the bricktown area is always fun. City walk has about 6 different style bars in it a night club, a karaoke bar, a piano bar, martini lounge, and a night club style with your dance floor and everything. Hit that up on a Fri/Sat night lots of potential there. Tap Werks is a great bar with something like a 150 different tap beers. Sky Bar is fun but more of a nicer crowd there with a dress code etc., well really every bar down in the bricktown area has a dress code, have to have nice shoes no athletic shoes, no shorts, jeans are usually ok at most places with a collared shirt. Rodeo is strict on no shirts extending below your fingertips, and if you go there on a Wednesday night you'll know why....
I was down there during the Summer so the Bricktown Ballpark was up and running and had some nice baseball action. The Bricktown brewery is a good place for food and drinks as well. Besides that, Buffalo Wild Wings after work is a good stop on the way back to the FAA housing, just off MacArthur near WalMart.
Other places to checkout are Emerson Biggins on Meridian large like 40oz margs for 5 bucks and 40 ounce beers for like 8. There is a great Chinese food buffet on meridian, just past chilis. What-a-burger is a great fast food place. and last but certainly not least is Sonic happy hour slushes are awesome, first time I was able to eat at a sonic after seeing commercials all the time for them.
Lunch close by includes subway, sonic, what-a-burger, quiznos, bww, and arby's. I guess it depends on your instructor but ours certainly gave us plenty of time to eat at any place.
All the instructors will tell you to not study 100% of the time as it will drive you nuts. Have fun down there for most it is a nice little 3 month vacation from real life (no family, kids etc.). When it comes time to buckle down do it and get out of there. But for enroute that doesn't really take place until the last few weeks with the PV approaching and mid-way through with the written test. Other than that not all the much studying is required, you have plenty of time while at the academy to learn what you need to learn.
