Security Clearance / Background -- PREVIOUS CLEARANCE

I currently work in the aviation industry and already have a DOD security clearance. Will it transfer over to the DOT? Or will I have to go through the Whole process again?

    Re: Security clearance transfer?

Common sense would say you don't have to go through it again, but this is the govt..... they will prolly spend the money for another one.

    Re: Security clearance transfer?

If you DOD clearance was accomplished by OPM then you should be fine. I brought a JPAS printout for proof of my SCI clearance to the PEPC. They did not even need that, they were able to search my SSN on a database and verified it there. Good Luck

    Security Clearance

I have a top security clearance from when I was in the military a few years ago. I checked and it is still good for 2 more years. Do I have to go through another security clearance with the FAA?

    Re: Security Clearance

I have heard of them giving people with prior clearances waivers, hiring them while they complete the check...when I went through the hiring process, my clearance took about a week...I sent it off to New York on Monday, called the next Monday to ask if they had received it and she said she received it and it was complete. I didn't question her...I guess because nothing obvious was flagged and I had a prior clearance in the military and a public trust one for contract tower.

    Re: Security Clearance

during the security clearance portion you fill out a few page questionnaire. One of the last pages will ask about prior clearances and to attach any supporting documents. That should make the process smoother.

    Re: Security Clearance

I am not sure if that clearence works or not...i had the same deal as well I was a controller in the navy and got out in 06 with a few more years on my clearence and I was hired at Indy Airport as a security gaurd and that clearance took only days...I just recieved my clearence last week and it took a little over a month. The good news to anyone trying to get a clearence in the future my record is was def not the cleanest...I had a recent alcohol related incedent, not the best credit, tons of jobs...jobs i quit and jobs i was fired from...I also had some dept that i needed to pay back to the VA...all i can say is do not worry about your past and just TEll THE TRUTH. you will be fine.

I know that CAP has NOTHING to do with your security clearance, and 99% of everyone with NO clearance can get into 99% of all military base facilities as long as they have an escort or approval from the facility manager so that doesn't apply.

I did find this for you...:

A Periodic Reinvestigation (PR) is required every 5 years for a TOP SECRET Clearance, 10 years for a SECRET Clearance, or 15 years for a CONFIDENTIAL Clearance. However, civilian and military personnel of DOD can be randomly reinvestigated before they are due for a PR.

When a security clearance is inactivated (ie, when someone gets out of the military, or quits from their government civilian job or contractor job), it can be reactivated within 24 months, as long as the last background investigation falls within the above time-frame.

For example, if a military person has a Top Secret Clearance, and gets out of the military, and applies to work for a civilian contractor, the military member's clearance can be reactivated within 24 months of getting out of the military, as long as his last Top Secret Background investigation is less than five years old.

    Lifespan of a security clearance

I did an FAA security clearance in Sep 06. IIRC, it's good for two years, but is it two years from the date it was done or two years from your last date of employment?

Trying to figure out if I'll have to redo it or not.
