I got my TOL for ZDC last Wednesday (8/11/2010)

Right now, with Eastern Enroute number being recalled and revised, no one really knows how many people ZDC will hire as the numbers could go higher, lower, or remain the same.

However, before the recall ZDC was given for 38 new hire/academy spots for FY11.

I was selected for ZDC, had my interview today and was told to expect an TOL from the interviewer.

I have some questions, with so much information and he said/she said, its not only confusing but also frustrating.

Should I expect to attend the academy this/next year or could it be longer? I see posts where people haven't been given a class and interviewed a year or longer ago.

If I have absolutely no preference where I go, can I request a transfer to a needy facility and start training sooner?

What was the average wait from TOL to FOL?

Probably a bad place to ask some of these questions but its overwhelming everywhere else.

1. Going to the academy depends on many factors such as your TOL date, place in line for a class date for ZDC, and your clearances, medical, security, drug test, etc. Yes, it is possible that you may go to the academy next year, as in fiscal year 11, but there is also the possibility that you may have to wait until fiscal year 12, October 2011 and on ward, for a class date. It really depends and the FAA changes their plans daily it seems.

2. You can request a transfer, called a redirect, but typically they are denied. There are some people who have gotten a redirect, but they are few and far between. Disclaimer: Your results may vary.

3. The wait time from TOL to FOL depends on when you can go to the academy. See point 1.

10/9 as in Oct 2009? assuming so. Grats. I should be pretty close behind you and I have been told to expect Jan - March date. But who knows. Here is to hoping you get an Oct date...
