I just put in my Geo Prefs and this is one of the places I'd like to end up. Anyone work there? What's it like? Managment, Staffing, etc.

It's great to see that this thread has been so active since I started it. I am not officially ZBW bound. Well…official once all my clearances come back anyway. Anyone else on their way there or already there?

My wife works in ZBW. She really likes it. I will find out the other stuff for you and I will shoot you a PM with the answers once I get them.

I'm also headed for ZBW. Starting the academy next month. Aviator, I'd love to hear the same info about how things are for your wife if you wouldn't mind.

Boston ARTCC visit
Posted: 07-27-2009, 11:52 AM

Hello,

My name is Sylvain and I am a French air traffic controller. I work at Marseille ARTCC.

I will be in Boston from September 28th to October 9th 2009.
And I would love to visit Boston ARTCC and see how my American counterparts work.

My center welcomed an American ATC from Minnesota ARTCC a few months ago, but unfortunately, I couldn't attend his presentation about his job and had only the chance to talk to him for a few minutes.

If any Boston ATC would welcome me for a tour, that would be awesome!

Thank you very much.

Sylvain

I arranged a tour of Boston Center in May by calling the NATCA (labor union) national office (800-266-0895) and asking them to put me in touch with the facility representative. I can't seem to find the info they gave me at the moment but I'm sure if you explain to them who you are they would be happy to help.

The website is www.natca.org if you want more info.

Good luck.

Bosten ARTCC (ZBW):
35 Northeastern Blvd.
Nashua NH 03062
603-879-6638 (I am sure you will have to precede that number with the U.S. country code for dialing purposes)

Boston Tracon (A90):
25 Robert Milligan Pkwy.
Merrimack, NH 03054
603-594-5501

Logan International Airport (KBOS):
600 Control Tower
East Boston, MA 02128
617-561-5901

Good luck getting a tour. I know the few tours I went on at different facilities required U.S. identification. They may allow an exception for controllers.

Sylvain,

I'm going to post your request on the NATCA web site, if you can forward me your email address and/or a phone number for someone to get in touch with you it would help. My primary email is mramsey@natca.net

The process for a foreign controller to visit an FAA facility is that you have to receive prior permission from FAA Headquarters in Washington DC. The best way to accomplish this is to contact the Facility Manager for the facility that you want to visit, they will ask for your Name, Address, Facility you work at, Passport Information, and probably require a copy of your Identification. They will do a verification of your information and then either approve or dis-approve your request.

Total time to accomplish the prior permission process is several weeks so the sooner you begin the process the better. We've had several foreign controllers and pilots visit the facilities that I've worked so I know you should be able too.
