That's how I read it. Don't know if it's true about Hillard or not, but I've seen lots of places where it is true.

I worked down there for three years, Hilliard is a very country, small town. With that said it's no more "racist" than anywhere else. I live in Tennessee, grew up here, and can say I met more racist people when I was going to school in Western PA than I ever have when I worked down in FL or here in TN. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but it's not Birmingham in the 1960's, everyone drinks out of the same water fountains. As far as the facility goes, I think more people from up north worked there than anyone from the South.

Re: Jacksonville Center - ZJX
Posted: 03-17-2010, 12:34 AM There isn't a high washout rate at Jax Center. Yes, Hilliard is a kind of weird, but I live in Fernandina so I don't have to deal with them that much. It can be nice in Fernandina, lots to do if you like the outdoors.
I'm not sure about how many trainees they will be hiring. There are alot right now, but it hasn't slowed down training. ERAM is in the process of being implemented, and that will start to slow down training. Any other questions? |

Re: Jacksonville Center - ZJX
Posted: 03-29-2010, 07:13 PM One of the people in my school's registration office lives in hilliard, and she said that people there are pretty sexist. Specifically against women. She didn't say anything about racism though. She said she would go to her child's PTA meeting, and they would straight ignore the female's opinion. Other than that, I haven't heard much else about it. My mom worked there for a few years, and she said the people there are pretty nice. We live in the Fernandina beach area though, so she wasn't really around them unless she was at work.

Posted: 04-02-2010, 02:14 PM Just spoke with the ATM this past week. The budget is affecting hiring just like everywhere else. He said they have a very fast paced training plan plus there is about a 3% washout rate which is awesome.

Re: Jacksonville Center - ZJX
Posted: 05-04-2010, 08:46 PM I am a controller at the center, have been working there for a little over two years. I got to the facility in june 08 and was fully checked out in march 10. In my experience the majority of trainees succeed in their training at zjx so please dont listen to these 60 percent washout rate numbers. Training takes determination and patience so dont be in a hurry to become CPC. Hilliard is boring and hillbilly. I lived there for 5 months and got the heck out of dodge. its nice living there at first because you are so close to work but gets old QUICK! I live in fernandina now and really enjoy the area. The facility is slated to hire 20-30 people over the next year so dont give up hope! I enjoy my job but certainly work hard for my paycheck. I would recommend joining NATCA when you get to a facility. They will have your back if something goes bad in your training, management on the other hand, will throw you under the bus. When you get to the center expect 6 weeks of map study followed by 2 months of D school, then you train on your D sides (3 months to a year depending on what area you work in and your skill level) then R school for 2 months followed by 5 months to 2 years or more to become fully certified. Its a longggg ride but worth it in the end! Please feel free to ask me any questions about the area or the facility
