Would you consider the Jacksonville center a "decent sized" level to start?

Everyone has to start out somewhere. I heard about the washout rate, kind of bums me out.

Don't know the address off hand. Just go straight up US1 into Hilliard. There is a sign just past the Wendy's that says FAA Air Traffic Control Center. Turn right, go to top sign. Turn left and the Center is on the right, can't miss it.

Ok, I'm not as lazy as I thought I was. 37075 Aviation Ln in Hilliard.

To those of you who will be moving to Jacksonville, have any of you looked at or searched for a place to live in yet? Many of the reviews I found for the communities there are horrid and makes me feel that NYC is a safer place to live in. Jax has a population of 750,000 with a crime index rate of 550 while NYC (8 million) has 220. Dont know what the numbers mean but shoot the average number for the country is 330. I hear stories of how unsafe your car is or how many times people have had their apartments robbed in Jax. Anyone know of any gated communities that have a security guard 24/7? I dont want to end up having to own and carry a concealed weapon (legally of course ). Never have done so. I hear Florida law allows you to carry a loaded weapon in your car. Gee great, I cant flip somebody off cause I might get shot now.

Haha, Jax is kinda unsafe, but Ive never had a problem. My cars never been broken into and my house is safe (Im knocking on some serious wood now, lol). I would concentrate on Fernandina, honestly. Its not Duval county and has some nice neighborhoods. Plus, quite a few controllers live that way. Its a more laid-back area, a nice beach town.

And you do need to be careful who you yell/flick off. My roommate mooned someone as he and his friends were driving by a car...the person in the car shot at them. Jax isnt so bad, you just have to pick the right areas.

To those who keep talking about the high washout rate at high level facilities... centers are a totally different animal compared to high level terminals.

Centers are much more geared to taking a person with zero experience and training them ...
