what exactly is a CTO?
Posted: 08-23-2010, 03:39 AM

when you left the FAA and they took away the light, greenish card (your credentials) with your ratings on the back, how do you show people (say a contract tower) that you have a CTO? i'm just a bit confused on what exactly is a CTO. is it that green card or is it something else?

The FAA can't legally take your CTO or Radar License cards, those are yours. The only thing they can take from you is your FAA ID card.

Yes, if you were fully certified in the tower, the CTO was the green plastic card with your ratings on it. Some facility managers are still under the old way of doing things. They tried to tell me I shouldn't have my old cards anymore. Either way, if they did take them, you can call out to OK City and get a copy sent to you.

They shouldnt take your CTO until you re-certify and you get issued a new CTO card.

They are like trading cards, you can collect them.

I can fax you a copy of mine while I am faxing it to the FAA if you want to see one. If someone tries to take away your CTO, well lets just say it's a good way to get their ass kicked.
