Re: Longview - GGG
Posted: 04-14-2010, 11:27 AM Well I was just given my second redirect to Longview now. Anyone know how it is to work there, how long to check out etc. I'd appreciate any info everyone has.

Im in Longview. Longview is not a bad place to work. Check out time really depends on several factors: You're abilities, the time of year you get here, the traffic. For a new hire I've seen as little as a year to get checked out to as long as 2-3 years. When are you going to be here? Are you a new hire? Do you have atc experience? Are you from east Texas? Nick |

Re: Longview - GGG
Posted: 04-14-2010, 12:19 PM Thanks for the info Nick. I grew up in east Texas so I'm a little familiar with the area and I've flown in and out of Longview a few times when I was flight instructing. I start OKC May 6th and I guess I'll be to Longview around the first of August. I'm a Continental Express pilot now and I've been doing that for a few years so no ATC experience. Thanks for the info.

Posted: 04-14-2010, 10:31 PM Hey I forgot about this thread...@nick: I know this is a question that there is not definite answer to, but what do you think the staffing levels will look like in the next 2-3 years?

Abilene is a bigger town, so I think I'll like that part better, but I'm from Houston and my soon-to-be fiance's family is in the DFW area, so Longview would have been more centrally located. I guess I just have a bunch of 7-hour drives in my future to get home. |

Not too sure what the staffing levels are going to be. We do have a lot of the older controllers up for retirement in the next 3 years, most are getting out. Just depends on how many new people we get in that time.

Re: Longview - GGG
Posted: 07-28-2010, 01:58 PM Thanks! I'd love to get GGG. I'm going to LeTourneau this fall getting my A.S. I'll have to come see the tower one day.

Re: Longview - GGG
Posted: 11-23-2011, 04:49 PM I don't work there, but I do live in Longview. I'd try to stay away from south LV. Further south towards the Lakeport(Technically where the airport is) area isn't bad, but I would assume your not going to run out and buy a house. I would look towards the north side of town for apartments. That's also where all the shopping and restaurants are. LV itself is pretty boring, there are a few bars and stuff but not much. On the bright side though, Shreveport is only an hour away and they have the boardwalk, casinos, clubs, racetrack, etc...
