Amarillo Tower - AMA
Posted: 01-23-2009, 11:20 AM

I got selected for Amarillo. I'm a city guy, so I don't know if I want to take this offer and try transferring later. Has anyone heard anything about this facility or city?

Hi, How did you find out where you are going? Think long and hard before you decline because it is a VERY long wait because you start from step 1 and day 1 again if you want to reapply.

I got selected for Sacramento in Sept, declined and switched to San Diego Tower (wasn't really a solid TOL because it wasn't cleared with the western division). So, I asked to be released from western service area, and asked for Houston. My HR rep came back with Amarillo (long story short). I applied to this job back in 06', so I know the wait, but i'm not trying to get stuck where there's only fields and cows (no offense, just my opinion)

I hear ya... well maybe you can speak with the HR rep some more and see what the chances are for somewhere else? Good luck.

I feel your pain, I've been in the process since Oct 06 and turned a couple of places down. I live in Dallas, and as for Amarillo....unless you like roasting in the summer, drudging through snow in the winter, country music and rodeo's then you might want to wait. Now if you're into the whole country scene, probably would be a great choice. How did you find out your facility?

Amarillo isn't bad i've lived in Texas my whole life and ii've been there once! If you go you've got to try to eat that 72oz steak in an hour! kI grew up 10 miles from the nearest gas station or city lights so we probably have different definitions of what is and isn't a city area!

They have 72oz steaks in Amarillo... if you can eat the whole meal in an hour...which consists of shrimp cocktail, baked potato, salad, roll w/ butter and a 72oz

I'm in Dallas also. I looked up Amarillo airports, and it was the only one that popped up (just my luck). I signed the TOL for San Diego, but I found out that the offer was a snub because the HR rep was no longer with the department. The FAA was just trying to find me a spot, because I signed a paper that was not cleared nor valid for Western Division.

LOL I hear you man, I live in Miami, FL and made a trip out to this remote area in Arkansas to visit a friend stationed in the Military for a couple weeks.

I met some pretty nice people but good GOD! I was sooo sad and depressed it wasn't even funny. I think eventually that might affect your job performance if you're not use to that environment.

Then again, it's the job of a LIFETIME and once you get certified I'm sure you'll have more pull on being able to transfer some place that might make you happier. I'd say go for it, suck it up for couple years.

Seems like you've been back and forth a little too long already (since 2006), you wouldn't want to wear your chances thin.
