I was wondering if anyone had info on MSY. It is an up-down facility so does it take longer to be CPC and what is the average check out time? Any info would be great.

A controller at NEW told me that MSY is "tripping over OTS" trainees. Might mean that training will be moving slower, with the extra demand on trainers... but that's just speculation on my part.

Louisiana has been hurting for new people -- if you've seen chichi's compilation of all the invites from the PUBNAT3/4 group, there are about a billion headed out there, particularly to Monroe -- so I'd imagine it's a unique situation.

At the facility I toured, they told me that Louisiana is still in need of ATC. She said that at most level 7s up/downs it takes a considerably shorter amount of time to become CPC versus a 10-12 Tower. To certify, she threw out numbers like 6 months @ lower levels versus 3-4 years at a level 11, 12.

Six months to CPC? Nah.

6 months for tower, and then another 6 months for TRACON is a more realistic number for a level 7 up/down. Maybe that's what she meant.

It is a level 9 facility. But yeah one guy I talked to there checked out on tower in about 8 months and was getting ready to go back to the academy for tracon.

you can expect 1 -1/2 years once you get checked out in tower you will have to wait for rtf which can take up to 4 months alone so with no experience 1-2 years is more reasonable

MSY is a very nice facility and the people there were amazing. One of the finest facilities I have had the privilege of spending time in.

Other than that I can't tell you much others above haven't said.
