Re: Mobile ATCT/Tracon - MOB
Posted: 07-26-2009, 06:45 PM yea i work there. I'm CTI and just certified, took almost two years. I think its a great first facility especially after hearing stories of what some of my friends are going through. They just cut the staffing by 2, but has a good wave of retirements in the next 2-3years, plus me and two other VRA's that just certified are all going to bid out. The manager there (Billy Reed) has the idea that MOB is a training facility and expects new people to move as well. Ask or PM me any questions you have

Posted: 07-27-2009, 05:28 PM Don't forget in Alabama, you also have MGM (Montgomery), HSV (Huntsville) that are also ATC-7 up/down facilities, and BHM (Birmingham) which is a ATC-8.

Re: Mobile ATCT/Tracon - MOB
Posted: 07-29-2009, 09:47 PM The tracon can get busy, most of the traffic is military trainers, the tower is probably the slowest in the area. The contract tower that is about 7mi. away is 3x as busy. They just installed an ASR11 radar ant. and plan on moving our tracon over to pensacola, but the govt. moves slow so well see. The airport is west of the "downtown" area and it is easy to find apartments or rental houses near. Most peoples commute is less than 15min. You dont have to go far to find more country places, but around the airport isnt bad, def. not cityish though. And i dont know on hiring plans for 2010. The other facilities mike listed are a good place to start as well. States like TX and CA are a tossup, but dont be scared to turn down a busier place or a location you dont like.
