Anyone have any information on this airport? besides that it is a level 7 and is in the middle of nowhere.

Anyone have an IFR sup and can tell me what the hours are here? I can't find this info online anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Yes TLH is out in the middle of nowhere and not close to anything really but it's a good place to start out. It's a fairly easy checkout through the Tower, but the radar rooms more complicated and some people have washed out down there. It's a Level 7, but that probably applies more to the TRACON, the Tower is more like a 5. It's a great place to start out at or retire to. The people are some of the best in the business and they still really care about the trainees. Average checkout through the whole facility is a year and a half. Summer is a problem because the traffic dies (apparently no one wants to sit in a Skyhawk in 110 degree heat) but we get a good amount of military from Tyndall, Pensacola, Whiting Field, Moody, Cairn's, and Columbus, MS. The airspace is almost completely surrounded by MOA's and their controlling facilities. When the legislature is in session or during football season the traffic quadruples overnight and you work your tail off. If you want to know anything else, just ask

Chris,

Thanks. I never would of guessed. I put down FL as one of my states - and it is my worst fear that I'd get stuck in TLH. But, I guess after reading what you said, it can't be too bad.

Thanks,
Tom

TLH is kind of a training facility, get people checked out at lower levels then move then on up to other facilities. I think we have 17 FPL's and at least 10 Developmentals. Our staffing level is 21.

What's an FPL? Is 21 fully staffed?

Great info in here! I'm on a referral list for Florida, and TLH is one of the few cities in FL that I don't know much about, and would be a little apprehensive on going to...

Not completely true: College Town yes. basically South Georgia. more than half black. only lots of nightlife if you want to get drunk in college bars, other than that there isn't crap to do here. no beach anywhere near here either. you must drive 3 hours to go anywhere that's worth going. airport is tiny but expanding slowly. you can go to Atlanta, Charlotte, DFW, Miami, West Palm, Tampa, and Orlando from here but Panama City is rumored to be getting Southwest which would be awesome! if you can fly out of TLH for less than $350 I'd be very impressed. it's cold during the winter, 110 for about a week and them thunderstorms all summer long. this town could, by definition, be considered a tropical rainforest because of the rainfall yearly.
