re: Palm Beach Int'l - PBI
Posted: 07-27-2009, 07:41 PM I grew up in west palm beach! Great area but expensive... I believe its a level 9 and the TRACON will be moving to Miami in the near future. Christmas time you can still wear shorts and a t-shirt and the beaches are awesome year round. The airport runs airliners and tons of private jets along side some general aviation traffic. Very little military operations tho. Also, the tower is on the opposite side of the airport from the terminal which will make your drive to work a lot less stressful. Right off of a main road. Beautiful area and a huge night life if you are into that kind of stuff. Also, check out peanut island if you enjoy beach parties.
you will be required to own a boat or wave runner after you move there, haha. |

I was wondering cause I thought about going to a tower, just afraid of getting stuck at TRACON during the split. I rather work up at the tower but heard that developmentals will be staying at TRACON during the split and they will be leaving the experience controllers at tower. I hope you get what you want, let us know what you find out.

Re: Palm Beach Int'l - PBI
Posted: 08-19-2009, 01:10 PM Don't state PBI is splitting if you are not in the loop. There is no decision as of yet. We will know by the end of September whether the split is happening. Right now it is leaning toward the Tracon staying here and picking up fort pierce and vero beach airspace from ZMA. This has a good chance of bumping us up to a L10. This place is seasonal. During a normal year we run L7 traffic May thru October then L11 traffic November thru April. With one main runway for arrivals and eight arrival posts....have fun training with that!! That being said, PBI is awesome! Everyone is laid back and the supes are harmless. I grew up in WPB and can tell you it's really not as expensive as everyone says. I wish you all the best of luck and see you when you get here!
