Hillsboro Tower - HIO
Posted: 05-05-2009, 04:42 AM I am going to be working here after OKC. I was wondering if anyone out there has heard anything about Hillsboro Tower, good or bad, that they will share? Apparently I am really lucky to be going here? It is (according to the controllers there) one of the best places to go. Has anyone else heard this?

Posted: 05-27-2009, 07:40 AM After taking my tour, I actually didnt like the facility at all. Probably because I like enjoy radar and Hillsboro is NOT radar certified, so they just use the "one in and one out" policy.
It is a level seven and is not busy at all. However, they are putting in a new runway and maybe that will help. You should be checked out within a few months. Suggestions: know helicopter phrasology! (lots of copters) Know how to read a flight progress strip clearance, because that is what you will be doing on ground. I hope you have patience, because over 60% of the traffic are students and most of the students from asia. They can speak some english, but at times it can be hard to understand and be understood. Posted: 08-12-2009, 03:34 PM Being a current controller at Hillsboro (HIO) I can tell you it may have slow times in the winter, it is most definantly not slow. Our manager just got the word, we were the busiest tower in Oregon. I believe last year we had some 260,000 ops.
