Miami Tower - MIA
Posted: 02-01-2010, 07:41 PM Mod note: MIA is actually an up/down, but instead of merging threads, this one'll just be closed. Discussion on MIA is here.
I was wondering if there was anyone that was currently or looking into Miami International as their facility? Is it an Up/Down Facility? If not how is TRACON there... I understand it is a Level Twelve Facility but not quite as busy as New York. How are the working conditions? Thanks. |

Re: Miami Tower - MIA
Posted: 02-02-2010, 12:55 PM They are an up/down but the facility is somewhat split.......They have two areas; one area is the tower and about 5 radar positions from the TRACON and the other area is strictly the TRACON and no tower. They did this many years ago and found that their OEs went down, before there were just two many positions to remember everything.
Haven't heard any grumblings about the facility, one of the things that the facility (NATCA) is trying to fight right now is stopping the move of PBI's TRACON to MIA which the FAA is still trying to push. Housing costs down there are more than other places in the state. Traffic (driving not airplanes) is a nightmare but during time away from work.....well you can find anything and do just about everything. Basically the area from PBI south is just one big metro area. |

Re: Miami Tower - MIA
Posted: 02-04-2010, 05:30 AM I know a few controllers in Florida that bought and lived on their sail boats while living and working in Florida instead of getting an apartment or house. One of these individuals is working at MIA now.

Posted: 01-14-2012, 11:41 AM What's going on guys. I am an military Air Traffic Controller and I'm exiting the service pretty soon. I wanted to know how do I go about scheduling a tour/visit of the tower to understand procedures and talk with the training supervisor?
