One thing I would ask is training time. I had a friend that went up there. Training was horrible and they all quit. Some might have washed, but a good number quit and reapplied. Now they are all working somewhere else. The facility "was" undermanned big time, making training near impossible. Most just sat around or worked data all the time. Hopefully it's not like this now. This was in early-mid '07.

You being from NY helps because you are used to the cost of living and you know if you can make it on the pay they offer. A lot go up there because that is there only offer, not realizing the cost of living.

I take everything as I challenge. I didnt accept an FOL for a level 12 facility to get training wheels and a bib. If this job was easy than im sure as hell we wouldnt be stuck in the employment crisis we are in now. I hope the training is better than 07' but if it isnt it isnt necessarily going to stop me. I appreciate what your saying but I think people take too much negative out of N90 which maybe deserved but if you cant take the level 12 hit than I guess you werent cut out for it to begin with

Easy killer, I didn't say you needed someone to hold your hand or that you wouldn't make it. I was just letting you know that training was backed up, so there was a lot of waiting. Which meant nobody was checking out, which equals no pay raises. Things may have changed, maybe not. I hope they have. Either way....best of luck.

Dude you have the right attitude. When you get there don't take no for an answer, step up wearing your headset and say "Train Me!" train with anyone who will train you. Don't act cocky, don't be argumentitive, don't make excuses, listen and learn. Some folks are content to sit around and work FD, don't be one of those people. The other CPC's and supes will notice you as a motivated individual and get you trained. When you train with different folks you will get trained differently, just go with it and you will be fine.

Kick ass and don't bother taking any names.

No doubt, keep an upbeat, can't keep me down, hard-charging attitude. Just make sure to keep it in check. There's a fine line between motivated and arrogance. If training is still slow, and you rot on data, make the best of it. When everyone else is out taking breaks, ask to plug in to your next position. If you don't have one, just pick one. While on data, study when it's dead. The ones that play around and do nothing stick out. In the unfortunate event you struggle with a position, they'll remember how hard you were trying and they'll go to bat for ya.

A level 12 is no joke starting out, you're right. If you maintain a positive attitude plus your ability to take constructive criticism and learn from it, you'll do fine.

Hey, im currently in RTF training at the academy. I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what I should expect when I get to the tracon. I do ask that its somewhat current information, last I was informed no one's checked out in a few years and the percent of wash outs was high.
