Phoenix TRACON - P50
Posted: 07-05-2009, 12:59 AM Anyone out there work at Phoenix?? My husband and I are currently military controllers. I want to get out and my DOS is Feb 2010. He has orders to Luke, so the only FAA facility in the area, that isnt a tower, I believe is PHX TRACON? I havent seen any job announcements for there since I signed up for the email alerts, so just curious if anyone works there and has any idea about the hiring there??? Thanks!

Re: Phoenix TRACON
Posted: 07-08-2009, 05:24 PM Serco wont hire without a CTO and atleast 52 weeks of experience. I guess the FAA is your only choice if you are going to the Phoenix area.
You wont get job alerts for a specific area. You may be thinking of the jobs listed at faa.gov but those are basically bids for controllers already in the FAA looking to move. You will have to apply for a VRA or PUBNAT listing and select a state. You can make a note about your situation and it should give you a better chance of getting the Phoenix area. The FAA will be quicker to hire you over a CTI/OTS applicant. Phoenix has a lot of facilities, but just one radar like you mentioned. There is PHX tower, scottsdale, Falcon Field, and Deer Valley. I think I got them all. |

Re: Phoenix TRACON
Posted: 07-08-2009, 08:21 PM If you're going by the daily reports for OE/OD's that facilities get, then you'd find that P50 does not get 2 per day.
If you're DOS is in Feb, I recommend attempting to get your CTO prior to that, if they'll allow it. Otherwise, apply now for the FAA if you haven't already done so. P50 is working 6 days per week and has quite the training load, so it will probably be a long and arduous process. If you apply to all of the PHX area, you can potentially get placed in a tower. Tucson also has an approach as does Prescott (although PRC is supposed to be going to P50). From the way I understand it as well, people have been known to put their 2 years in at SDL, GYR, DVT, and FFZ then get reassigned to P50. After you apply, I also recommend calling your HR representative. Getting your name in their head for when they look for someone for P50 isn't a bad idea. Good luck. Serco is out of the question w/o a CTO. |

Re: Phoenix TRACON
Posted: 07-08-2009, 09:48 PM yah i was supposed to get my CTO last year, then they found out I had orders out of Travis and stopped my training. Im having a baby next month so basically i will have 5 months to get a CTO if they were to even let me go back into training. Its a stretch but I can still try.
I did apply for the FAA, just yesterday as a matter of fact. This might be a dumb question but what is the HR representative? |
