Just curious. How do you verify that the survey respondents are real controllers?

bassdad. No identifing information is kept to attract controllers to the study- not many controllers would take a survey that identifies them. It is assumed that nobody would lie and say they are an atc and take the survey- what would the purpose be? Its hard enough getting anyone to fill out a survey in the first place. Secondly, over half of the responses came the first day this was posted on the bbs so i would say with certainty better than 75% are current faa atc.

The survey is now closed. Thanks to all those ATC who took time to respond to this survey, a total of 88 responses were received. If you would like to view the results they are here, ATC Survey Results.

Interestingly over 1/3 of all respondents agreed or strongly agreed that "Someone at my facility has had an operation error/deviation that could be attributed to fatigue associated with rotating shifts, overtime or lack of breaks."

Again, I sincerely appreciate the time of those who responded to the survey!!

I wonder who the one "Strongly Agree" was who said they always got 8 hours of sleep at night. Or better, where they're at.

Rossi, here was the comment on that one, guess the guy is on straight eves

Now that I"m on a straight shift (1+ year) I do. Before when on a rotating shift I would get an average of 5 hours of sleep.

He works at a Lvl 5 tower that shuts down at dusk. Ocassionaly they have to shut down for a few minutes because a flock of sheep are passing through.

I noticed on there you're using 8 hrs of sleep as the bench mark. Just something you might want to consider, needing 8 hrs of sleep is basically a crock of fecal matter. The amount of sleep someone needs varies widely based on a lot of factors. There are several studies out there talking about how some people need 5 hrs of sleep, some need 10.
