FAA Mismanagement and Controller Fatigue
Posted: 02-10-2010, 05:53 PM Hello All,
Haven't been around in a while, but I need a favor from any FAA controllers that are out there. I am doing what amounts to my thesis for my masters on ATC fatigue and FAA mismanagement. AND as much as we hate surveys I need FAA ATC to complete one if at all possible at: http://fs2.formsite.com/andzoz/ATCsurvey/ The survey will only take a couple of minutes and will help a prior Navy ATC complete his MAS. Please note your demographic information is not recorded nor your facility, union status etc. Below is an abstract of the paper if you wish to read it. I sincerely appreciate anyone's time who completes this!! and if you can get any other ATC to complete it that would be beyond awesome. Abstract: Fatigue has been a known issue in aviation safety since the first humans attempted long range flight. The National Transportation Safety Board has been concerned about the effects of fatigue on air traffic controllers since the 1980s and has made numerous recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration to combat controller fatigue. The Federal Aviation Administration has disregarded many of the National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendations and continues to schedule and staff controllers in a manner that contributes to controller fatigue. This paper will discuss the current controller work environment and its direct effect on controller fatigue. |

Re: FAA Mismanagement and Controller Fatigue
Posted: 02-10-2010, 07:21 PM You should try to find the Jones Report and the Rose Report as tangential data to your paper. They are reports on relations between controllers and management and on stress and burnout in the FAA from the late 70's and early 80's. It may tie in to your research.
They will be difficult to find. |

Thanks for the advice. I will attempt to locate those reports. Embry Riddle does require actual data collection, and in my case its from FAA ATC, I think getting more than 20 ATC to fill out this form is going to be quite the task. zoz02 |

Nice memory. The questions were somewhat different on Jonathan's survey though - link to his paper Human Factors And Operations Management In Air Traffic Control Thanks for the response Roddy! |

yeh, getting the east coast to fill it out and the union says no, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. however, you can count them out if Union says so. Its almost unheard of they think for themselves. the backlash is too severe.
