Default Busy Washington Controller asks for help twice and is denied

LEESBURG, Va. – An overloaded Washington Center air traffic controller struggling to handle a dozen planes in challenging conditions twice asked Federal Aviation Administration management officials at the facility last Sunday for help but was denied. After 10 minutes of fighting through the intense traffic rush by himself, the controller made a serious error and two regional jets got much closer than FAA rules allow in the latest episode of understaffing affecting safety at a major radar facility. My greatest hope as a future manager is to not only help those controllers who need it but go farther than most would. I believe this act by management is unacceptable. No matter what was going on elsewhere, management should have helped out.

not surprised. not at ur comment Matt Jordan but at manglements handling of the situation. unfortunately it'll take a mid-air before the flying public (congress) decides enough is enough.

It used to be, it took body count before the FAA got off their a.. and changed things. I hope that isn't true anymore.

That's horrid. I hope that he wasn't "disciplined" for it, and given grace.

Those two managers should be fired.
